Qualified Advanced Practitioner - Emergency Department (Band 8A)

The Urgent & Emergency Care CBU is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic Advanced Practitioner with a MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice, to join our established Ambulatory Care Unit.

Applications are welcome from appropriately experienced registered Nurses, Allied Health Professionals (AHP) and Pharmacists. The Emergency Department Ambulatory Care Unit is designed to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions by ensuring patients receive timely, effective care in the most appropriate setting. As the advanced practitioner, you will autonomously assess, diagnose, and manage patients presenting with a wide range of acute conditions, delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care.

The Qualified Advanced Practitioner will provide pivotal high-quality, patient-centred care to individuals presenting with acute but non-life-threatening conditions. Working autonomously, they are responsible for the comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, investigations/interpretation, prescribing appropriate treatment, and the safe discharge planning of patients within the ED Ambulatory Care Unit.

Daily activities include clinical decision-making, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and initiating appropriate management plans. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless patient care and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions through the application of evidence-based practice.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a compassionate, forward-thinking motivated professional from a nursing, AHP or GPHc background with significant experience of the emergency department and ambulatory care who can demonstrate:

Registered Nurse, Physiotherapist, Pharmacist with active NMC, HCPC or GPhC Registration

Master's in Advanced Clinical Practice

* Extensive experience as a qualified advanced clinical practitioner within Emergency care / Ambulatory care
* Evidence of research experience
* Formal teaching experience
* Highly experienced in complex reasoning and prioritisation skills, across clinical and staffing requirements with advanced practice in the ambulatory department.
* Highly experienced at disseminating and presenting complex information using both verbal and written disciplines across a broad range of clinical and non-clinical activities.
* Persistent engagement in self-driven CPD that can be evidenced

Person Specification


Experience

* oRegistered Nurse, AHP or Pharmacist with active current NMC, HCPC or GPhC Registration
* oExperience as a qualified advanced clinical practitioner within Emergency care / Ambulatory care
* oExtensive research and audit experience.
* oEvidence of teaching experience.
* oExperience of supervising qualified and trainee advanced clinical practitioners
* oLine Management experience within an advanced practice team
* oExperience of budget support
* oEvidence of supporting trainee advanced practitioners in difficulty.
* oEvidence of high level report writing and presentation skills.
* oInstitute of Leadership and Management Level 5 Certificate, or equivalent with recent line management experience


Qualifications

* oRegistered Nurse with current NMC Registration
* oMaster's degree in advanced clinical practice (or AP status through e-portfolio NHSE process)
* oV300 non-medical prescriber
* oALS provider
* oIR(MER) training
* oFormal Teaching Qualification
* oGood understanding of the training and development needs of trainee advanced practitioners


Skills, knowledge and competencies

* oExpert complex reasoning and prioritisation skills, across clinical and staffing requirements with advanced practice in the ambulatory department.
* oHighly experienced at disseminating and presenting complex information using both verbal and written disciplines across a broad range of clinical and non-clinical activities.
* oHigh attention to clinical details and accuracy.
* oExcellent interpersonal skills with evidence to support this.
* oPersistent engagement in self-driven CPD that can be evidenced.
* oDemonstrate published research and audit skills both at local and national level.
* oExpert professional / clinical knowledge of Advanced Practice at local and national level.
* oAble to demonstrate and active research portfolio
* oEvidence of developing and implementing policies and protocols where identified within advanced practice.
* oContribute to the management of complaint timelines with attendance to Governance meetings.
* oPrevious budget management, with evidence to support
* oDemonstrates understanding of advanced practice and the potential for role development within ambulatory care.
* oEvidence of supporting and supervising trainee advanced practitioners.

* oLead and take responsibility for regular research and audit activity within ambulatory care and urgent and emergency care.
* oIntegrates knowledge of Trust safeguarding adhering to the Trust's Safeguarding procedures and guidelines.
* oEvidence of quality improvement
* oPublications / presentations at national level.
* oEvidence of supervising advanced practice trainees within the acute environment.
* oAdvanced communication skills

* oComputer literate, able to navigate multiple clinical systems to gather and analyse patient information

* oManaging distressing circumstances, such as end of life care, resuscitation situations and acute mental health attendances.

Working conditions

* oDue to the high patient capacity and demand working environments can be noisy due to volume of clinical activity.
* oPatients may be experiencing physical and emotional distress.
* oTo be skilled to impart complex and distressing information with respect and empathy.
