Protocol Education are currently working with a specialist SEND provision in the Peterlee area supporting children and young people aged 2–19 with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The school provides education for pupils with a wide range of complex additional needs, including: • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD) • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) • Sensory and physical needs The environment is highly structured and supportive, with small class sizes, sensory spaces and specialist equipment to help pupils regulate and engage in learning. The role As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and therapists to support pupils both 1:1 and in small groups, helping them access learning through personalised approaches. Responsibilities may include: • Supporting pupils with communication and interaction • Using visual timetables, symbols and alternative communication methods • Assisting with sensory activities and structured routines • Supporting personal care where required • Encouraging independence and life skills You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team including teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to ensure every pupil receives tailored support.
