An exciting post has risen for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Nurse to join the innovative Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care Team (SPCT), working in York Teaching Hospital, Community Services.
The successful candidate will be joining a well established team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Lead Nurse and Consultants in Palliative Medicine, who provide specialist palliative care expertise across the acute and community settings. The team values close working relationships with medical, nursing and social health care colleagues, and the local hospice provider.
We have a firm commitment to the education and training of others, and promoting quality and excellence in palliative, and end of life care, across York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Working pattern: Including weekends.

Main duties of the job
For this Band 6 post, we are keen to appoint a team orientated, highly motivated and experienced nurse, who has expert specialist palliative care knowledge, advanced communication skills and established emotional resilience.
The successful post holder will have a high level of autonomy in the management of their caseload, and will need to be a skilled decision maker and able to prioritise workload.
The team provides a 7 day service, and this post requires weekend working on a rota basis. The ability to meet the travel requirements of the post is essential.

Eduacation, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
8. Registered Nurse (Level 1)
9. Degree or working towards in Nursing or related subject
10. Minimum of 5 years post registration with 2 years palliative care/ oncology experience
11. Non-medical prescriber – or a willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
12. Recognised teaching/ assessing qualification
13. Post registration qualification in specialty
14. Advanced communication skills
Experience & Knowledge Required
Essential criteria
15. At least 5 years’ experience at band 5 or equivalent within relevant speciality eg palliative care
16. Understanding of audit & standard setting
17. Ability to support and implement change
18. Ability to plan & participate in formal and informal education
19. Ability to work as part of a team as well as autonomous practitioner
Desirable criteria
20. Service development and/or change management
21. Previous involvement in the implementation of care pathways
22. Leadership or management experience
