Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the research team at Hollinswood House working on the exciting TRIOMIC research study.

We are collaborating with the colorectal team to transform the colorectal pathway and revolutionise the diagnosis of colorectal cancer.

As an Assistant Research Practitioner, you will work alongside Research Nurses/Midwives/AHP's to maximise Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals Trust recruitment of patients into research appropriate for their condition. The role is diverse and interesting and you will play a part in improving healthcare and treatments for future generations.

The post is within the Research and Innovation department and there may be a requirement to support the Generic, Cancer and Women's and Children's team as part of the role.

Informal visits to the department is highly encouraged before shortlisting to find out more about the role.

This role will be focused at Hollinswood House working with the colorectal team in a clinic setting seeing up to 150 patients a week. Venepuncture is a large part of this role and this skill is essential.


Main duties of the job

* Overseeing patients journey throughout their time in a research study
* Carrying out observations as required by each study
* Involvement in setting up and delivering new studies
* Organising workload to ensure requirements of the role are met
* Data entry as required for each study
* Venepuncture and sample management including centrifuging samples where required (training provided where required)
* Screening, consenting and following patients up as required by each study protocol
* Maintaining safety and stock for each study
* Supporting others in the team with duties as required

Person specification


Qualifications

* Minimum of NVQ level 3 or equivalent relevant health care/life science qualification
* Good basic level of education, minimum five GCSEs, or equivalent passes including English
* NVQ level 4 or equivalent relevant health care/life science qualification


Experience and knowledge

* Experience in health care environment
* Understanding of research within acute setting
* Evidence of ongoing education/CPD within current role
* Knowledge of hospital based IT systems
* Experience of working in research setting / being involved in trials
* Experience of working in a fast paced environment
