Senior Quantity Surveyor - Water AMP 8
Location: Bristol (Flexible Hybrid)
Duration: Long-term Outside IR35 Contract
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team of a Tier 1 contractor, supporting the delivery of major construction and infrastructure projects. The role involves full commercial responsibility for a large project or a portfolio of smaller schemes, working collaboratively with project teams, clients and supply chain partners to achieve strong financial and contractual results.
You will be responsible for the effective commercial management of projects from initial procurement through to final account, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements while maximising value, managing risk and maintaining positive working relationships.
Key Responsibilities
* Take ownership of the commercial administration, reporting and performance of assigned projects
* Promote and maintain a safe and compliant working environment
* Prepare, negotiate and manage subcontract documentation, including terms, conditions, pricing and programmes
* Manage subcontract works packages, including interim valuations, payments and change control
* Administer contracts in line with their form, issuing all required commercial notices to clients and subcontractors
* Manage change effectively, including the preparation and submission of compensation event quotations and variations
* Prepare, submit and agree monthly applications for payment with the client
* Produce detailed monthly commercial reports and Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs)
* Develop and maintain accurate cost plans, forecasts and records of liabilities
* Identify, assess and manage commercial risks and opportunities
* Work closely with operational, engineering and design teams to ensure accurate site records and cost control
* Attend and contribute to progress, commercial and risk meetings with clients and subcontractors
* Support estimating and pre‑construction teams by providing contractual and commercial input when required
About You
* Proven experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level within the construction or infrastructure sector
* Strong working knowledge of standard forms of contract, particularly NEC
* Experience managing subcontractors, valuations, variations and final accounts
* Sound commercial awareness with the ability to manage cost, cashflow and risk
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Strong IT capability, including Excel and commercial or cost management systems
* A proactive, organised and professional approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Qualifications
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline
* Professional qualification or working towards membership of RICS or CIOB
* CSCS card as appropriate to role
