My very busy well-established recycling clients are now looking to add to the team a Mechanical Engineer for the facility in Runcorn. As a subsidiary of a large group focused on growing the circular economy and they see innovation within the company as pivotal to the global sustainability strategy, taking the development of the people and site capabilities to the next level will be the focus in 2025/2026.
Monday – Friday
This role will work a shift pattern of both day and afternoon shifts, with an on-call schedule.
The pattern will change on a weekly basis.
Salary £41k-£46k
First 3 months will not be working shifts
Qualifications:
Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or Level 3 Mechanical Engineering
Qualification such as:
1. NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering Maintenance
2. BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
3. City & Guilds Level 3 Mechanical Maintenance
4. HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering
Or qualified by experience.
IOSH (desirable)
Experience:
Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance
Technician, ideally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment;
Strong mechanical bias with good hands-on skills;
Experience in fault-finding and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems;
Experience with rotating machinery (motors, pumps, gearboxes);
Competent use of workshop machines and hand tools;
Good understanding of preventative maintenance methodologies;
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Your role:
We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our
engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable
and efficient operation of all plant machinery, via proactive and reactive maintenance. Key
responsibilities include:
Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on mechanical systems, machinery, and
equipment;
Respond to breakdowns and conduct reactive repairs to restore equipment to full working
order promptly;
Diagnose mechanical faults using root cause analysis and fault-finding techniques.
Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components (gears, pumps,
motors, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.);
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, maintenance manuals, and engineering
documentation;
Maintain accurate maintenance records, including logs of work done, parts used, and
downtime;
Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and
lower maintenance costs;
Ensure compliance with health & safety, risk assessments, and equipment isolation
procedures.
