Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Health & Safety Construction Manager to join our dynamic team in Stevenage. Fulfilling a critical leadership role within the team you will be responsible for ensuring the safety, technical integrity, compliance, and successful execution of construction projects within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide input to the Contracting and Procurement Strategy, ensuring safety requirements are embedded
2. Draft and review contract clauses related to safety, risk management, and emergency response
3. Establish and apply safety-related prequalification criteria for contractors
4. Evaluate contractors’ EHS systems, incident history, and safety performance during selection
5. Participate in bid evaluations and post-project reviews to inform future contract decisions.
6. Collaborate with procurement to structure contracts that incentivize safety milestones
7. Support constructability reviews, facilitating discussions among stakeholders and documenting outcomes
8. Ensure project design aligns with construction methods and safety considerations
9. Identify and address potential construction issues early in the project lifecycle
10. Contribute to the Project Execution Plan, focusing on construction execution strategy
11. Provide input on permitting and regulatory requirements
12. Support development of preconstruction EHS information in coordination with the Client’s Design Coordinator
13. Ensure safety schedules are in place before site work begins
14. Define EHS responsibility boundaries and prequalify contractors and key personnel on behalf of the client
15. Monitor and assure contractor compliance with EHS requirements and performance through regular meetings and audits
16. Implement site-specific safety rules and contractor safety oversight plans
Qualifications
17. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Construction Management, or Construction EHS Management
18. Extensive knowledge of construction safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices; specifically related to management of demolition activities
19. Strong understanding of contract management and procurement processes
20. Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
21. Ability to provide leadership to cross-functional teams and manage complex safety oversight activities
22. Proven track record in managing safety for large-scale construction projects
23. Experience in evaluating contractor safety performance and EHS systems
24. Competency in conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations
25. Experience in developing and implementing safety incentive programs
