An exciting opportunity has arisen for someone to join the Surgical Division Secretarial Team at Salisbury District Hospital. The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive range of administrative and secretarial support to the Consultants and their teams and the nursing team, will liaise with other departments and services, and respond effectively to enquiries from the general public, service users, and other colleagues. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic team player, be an experienced typist and will require GCSE English Language grade C or above, as well as audio typing and word processing skills to RSA level 2 or equivalent. A flexible approach to work is required with excellent communication skills.
Main duties of the job
To produce clinic letters and documents, maintain notes, collect and collate investigations.
To respond efficiently and effectively to telephone queries from patients, parents/guardians and other health care professionals.
To work independently, prioritising own workload quickly and accurately, responding to the needs of the department.
To offer secretarial support to the admin team when other staff members are away.

Experience
Essential criteria
1. Accurate word processing skills.
2. Educated to GCSE English Language Grade C or above.
3. Comprehensive IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft packages, including Outlook diary management.
4. Evidence of high level office administration skills with experience of developing and maintaining robust office procedures.
5. Audio typing skills.
6. Excellent organisational and time management skills to meet deadlines.
7. Able take instruction and to question whenever unsure.
Desirable criteria
8. Knowledge of medical terminology.
9. Experience working with Electronic Healthcare systems, including patient data entry, record retrieval, and document management.
