Are you a seasoned Mechanical Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced production environment? A leading name in the rail industry is looking for a Production Engineer to join their newly expanded Derby facility. This is a high-impact role where you can truly "own the outcome." With significant group investment driving expansion into Passenger, Tram, and Freight markets, you will have the opportunity to influence production efficiencies, mentor junior staff, and play a key role in high-profile bogie overhaul projects. If you are looking for a role with a diverse technical spread and the chance to implement your own process improvements, this is the platform to accelerate your career.
Responsibilities
* Provide lead engineering support for bogie and wagon overhaul activities, acting as the technical "go-to" for the shop floor.
* Manually develop and update complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) and manage part data within the ERP system (Sage).
* Produce, interpret, and update high-quality technical documentation and maintenance instructions for internal and customer use.
* Manage and resolve technical queries from customers, ensuring solutions are robust and formally closed out.
* Conduct vehicle inspections, sign off technical packs, and lead tooling design reviews to drive production efficiency.
The Candidate
We are looking for a quality-focused Mechanical Engineer (HND/Degree qualified or equivalent experience) with a strong technical foundation. You must have a deep understanding of heavy mechanical systems (nuts, bolts, torque tightening, etc.) and a background in rail, specifically bogie systems. You should be comfortable hitting the ground running, mentoring junior staff, and communicating effectively with external customers. A proactive approach to tracking queries and a desire to work in a busy, growing environment are essential for success in this role.
Location: Derby (5/5 On-site)
Salary: Circa £50,000 + Flexible Working, Electric Car Scheme, 33 Days Holiday, and Professional Chartership Support.
