We’re seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join one of our partner secondary schools, supporting students aged 11–19 with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a rewarding opportunity to positively impact young people’s educational and personal development.
About the Role:
As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting students with complex learning, behavioural, and communication needs. Working closely with teaching staff, you’ll help tailor educational experiences that are engaging, inclusive, and supportive.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Supporting students in developing communication, emotional regulation, and independence skills
2. Assisting in the delivery of structured lessons and learning activities
3. Helping to create a calm, inclusive, and adaptive learning environment
4. Supporting teachers with resource preparation and small-group interventions
Key Responsibilities:
5. Provide 1:1 support for students with additional learning, behavioural, or sensory needs
6. Build positive, trusting relationships with young people aged 11–19
7. Follow individual learning and support plans
8. Use initiative and adapt strategies to meet students’ varying needs
9. Contribute to intervention sessions and classroom planning
10. Ensure equal access to learning opportunities for all pupils
11. Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external agencies
Candidate Requirements:
12. Experience supporting students with SEN, ideally in a secondary or post-16 setting
13. Strong commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
14. Confident following school policies and health & safety procedures
15. Team player who can also work independently using initiative
16. Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills
17. Resilient, patient, and enthusiastic with a positive approach
