Overview We are supporting a leading aerospace engineering organisation in Tewkesbury in the recruitment of an experienced Sliding Head Lathe Machinist.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established, high-performing manufacturing team producing precision components to tight aerospace tolerances, with strong long-term career prospects.
Key Responsibilities
Set and operate Star Sliding Head Lathes
Machine components to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
Carry out inspection and self-certification using manual and automated metrology equipment
Work from engineering drawings, inspection plans, and technical documentation
Support problem solving and continuous improvement activities
Apply lean manufacturing principles (5S, etc.)
Perform basic preventative maintenanceRequirements
Proven experience setting sliding head lathes (Star preferred)
Completed engineering apprenticeship or equivalent
Experience working to tight tolerances in a precision environment
Competent using inspection and measurement equipment
Ability to read engineering drawings (metric & imperial)
Understanding of GD&T
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative
Able to work both independently and within a teamShift Pattern (2-Week Rotation) AM:
Mon–Thurs: 06:00–14:15
Fri: 06:15–11:45
PM:
Mon–Tues: 14:00–21:15
Wed–Thurs: 14:00–21:30
Fri: 11:30–19:30
