Job Overview As a Progress Chaser (Discharge and Flow Coordinator) in the Emergency Department, you will play a key role in supporting the smooth and timely flow of patients through their unscheduled care journey. Acting as the central point of coordination, you’ll monitor patient progress, chase diagnostic results, and liaise with clinical and administrative teams to help progress each patient's care and support critical performance targets. This is a fast-paced, people-focused role that requires excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills. Main duties of the job Monitor patient flow to help meet the 4-hour ED target and 15-minute ambulance handover time. Chase test results and coordinate diagnostics (e.g. X-rays, CT scans, pathology). Liaise with wards and site teams to support timely admissions and bed availability. Update ED systems (Patient First) and discharge records accurately. Arrange patient transport and support swabbing processes for admissions. Respond to enquiries from internal teams and external contacts (e.g. GPs, ambulance service, relatives). Support reception and admin tasks as needed, including during major incidents. Act as a super user for the ED computer system and assist with shift cover coordination. Person specification Essential and desirable Essential criteria Education to GCSE standard to include English, or equivalent Knowledge of patient administration systems. IT Literate, confidence and experience working across Teams/Excel, Word Desirable criteria NVQ Level 3 or working towards this. Experience within the NHS or similar healthcare setting.
