Allen Lane are supporting a social housing organisation on their recruitment for a Housing Solicitor.
The Housing Solicitor will be responsible for providing high-quality legal advice and representation across a broad range of landlord and tenant matters. This includes, but is not limited to, disrepair claims, tenancy breaches, unlawful occupation, failed succession, and rent possession proceedings.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 2 years’ experience in housing law, with a strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and the civil justice system. They will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, enabling effective representation of clients in court, tribunals, and other forums.
The role requires a client-focused approach, with the ability to empathise and deliver clear, concise, and practical legal advice. The postholder must be highly organised, capable of managing a demanding caseload and confident working both independently and on their own initiative.
The Housing Solicitor will also provide support in supervising and assisting the paralegal.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a varied caseload of housing matters, including:
* Possession proceedings (including rent arrears and anti-social behaviour cases)
* Unlawful occupation and tenancy fraud
* Failed succession claims
* Disrepair matters
* General tenancy breaches
* Draft, review, and amend tenancy agreements
* Advise on leasehold matters, in the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) (FTT)
* Advise on shared ownership matters and leasehold breaches
* Represent clients in court, tribunals, and other legal proceedings
* Prepare legal documentation, including applications, pleadings, and correspondence
* Ensure accurate time recording and file management in accordance with internal procedures
* Keep up to date with developments in housing law, including legislation affecting private and social landlords
* Support and assist in the supervision of junior staff as required
Skills and Experience
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in housing law
* Must possess a clean and current Practicing Certificate
* Proven experience managing a diverse caseload across landlord and tenant matters
* Strong working knowledge of housing legislation, case law, and the Civil Procedure Rules
* Demonstrable advocacy experience and strong drafting skills
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to provide clear, concise, and practical legal advice
* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
* Ability to work autonomously and take initiative
