Security clearance: This role requires Security Check (SC) clearance, which would normally need 5 years’ UK residency in the past 5 years. Candidates must also hold or be prepared to undergo NPPV3 clearance.
Networks and Infrastructure (N&I) within the Home Office are responsible for delivering and maintaining the core infrastructure for all the Home Office. This post sits within the existing Core Infrastructure team.
The team handles a diverse range of systems, concepts, and technologies, including Windows and Linux servers, core Windows technologies (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Certificate Authority). They also manage server and service monitoring, Infrastructure as Code, immutable infrastructure, automation, and serverless compute as well as public cloud services across major cloud providers. The team collaborates with other infrastructure teams and application teams to move legacy workloads to the cloud.
Your role as Senior Infrastructure Engineer builds, administers, transitions, supports and maintains infrastructure services throughout the service lifecycle, according to departmental policy and Home Office strategy.
You will work in a team of Infrastructure Engineers ensuring services are integrated, delivered and operated as needed. You will work with third parties in providing infrastructure services and with technical architects to translate architectural designs into operations. You will provide input into workforce planning, budgeting, technology roadmaps, projects and tasks.
Tools and technologies

* Privileged Access Management solutions such as CyberArk, Beyond Trust or Delinea
* Identity and Security, Active Directory and EntraID, Semperis DSP, SSO, ADFS, AADC
* Windows Server Management and Core Infrastructure knowledge (DHCP, DNS, RDS, IIS, PKI, SCCM)
* SQL or .NET framework
* Cloud technologies (AWS or Azure)
* Infrastructure Monitoring and Security Tools (Grafana, Dynatrace, SCOM, Splunk, etc.)
Main responsibilities
* Reviewing systems configuration against designs, supporting transition to live including testing and integration.
* Administering and supporting multiple platforms including Cloud hosting, ADFS, AADC and AD (both Microsoft Entra ID and on-premise AD), ensuring platform integrity and security.
* Designing, integrating, implementing and maintaining core infrastructure solutions using Microsoft tooling; maintain technical documentation.
* Initiating and monitoring actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems; lead remediation and preventative measures.
* Act as a subject matter expert within a team of 3rd line engineers, ensuring high service quality for customers and stakeholders.
* Coaching and mentoring more junior infrastructure engineers; participate in appraisal and performance processes.
* Input into engineering best practices and standards.
* Investigate faults and advise on solutions and preventative measures.
Essential skills
* Strong experience in administration and/or development with Microsoft applications or services (on-prem or cloud).
* Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) provisioning, restoration, and automation; hands-on scripting/development experience with Terraform, .NET, PowerShell, Python, AutoIT; version control.
* Problem solving with ability to identify root causes and resolve issues.
* Experience delivering complex technologies within time, cost and quality targets; ability to coach juniors.
* Designing and integrating solutions with interoperable services for technical efficiency and user experience.
* Able to take ownership and drive tasks to completion.
