At HCRG Care Group, we believe that the quality of clinical leadership is the single greatest driver of safe, outstanding services. We are looking for an experienced, credible and inspiring nurse leader to join us as Deputy Director of Nursing for our B&NES, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW) Business Unit, a role of genuine influence, strategic reach and clinical impact at a pivotal time for our services.
As the most senior nursing leader in BSW, you will be the professional voice for nursing and AHP colleagues across the business unit. You will be a core member of the BSW Senior Leadership Team, operating as a strategic partner to the Chief Nursing Officer and Regional Director, and providing the kind of visible, accessible clinical leadership that our services and our colleagues deserve.
This is not a desk-based role. We expect you to be a familiar, trusted presence across our BSW services, visible to the full range of colleagues, including those working nights, weekends and in community settings. You will have full autonomy over how you organise your diary to make that happen, but we would expect a commitment of three to four days on-site each week across the BSW footprint. You can be based anywhere within BSW.
No two weeks will look the same. You may spend a morning with a community nursing team in Swindon, an afternoon in Bath at a quality assurance review, and the following morning providing written assurance to the CNO on a clinical issue.
Main duties of the job
As Deputy Director of Nursing BSW, you will provide senior clinical leadership across all BSW services, acting as the trusted clinical voice for colleagues, managers and commissioners. You will offer visible, accessible leadership through regular site visits, professional forums and system level engagement, ensuring colleagues feel supported and connected to senior clinical leadership.
You will oversee the delivery of the clinical governance framework, ensuring CQC compliance, statutory requirements and organisational policy are met. You will take accountability for robust Internal Service Reviews, clear action planning and completion, and provide assurance on clinical risk, quality and inspection readiness. When issues arise, you will lead the learning agenda and support Registered Managers to drive meaningful improvement.
You will embed clinical leadership across all transformation programmes, ensuring clinical decision making shapes redesign, workforce models and service changes. You will sign off EQIAs, QIAs, clinical validations and hold delegated authority for research governance.
You will lead safe staffing across BSW, ensuring models reflect safety, standards, acuity, activity and affordability. You will approve establishment reviews, oversee advanced practice roles, and ensure access to training, competency and development pathways.
