We are looking for a Healthcare Security Officer to join the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, supporting patient, staff and visitor safety across our hospital sites.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high‑profile visible security presence throughout all areas of the hospitals, maintaining a polite, efficient and compassionate standard of service to patients, visitors and staff.
* Respond promptly to incidents, including assault, fire alarm activation, and medical emergencies, and take a leading role in fire alarm procedures.
* Record all security incidents and complete required documentation, using computer systems and/or written paperwork.
* Monitor CCTV in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and UHL policy.
* Deliver consistent customer service, giving directions, receiving instructions and communicating with patients, visitors and staff.
* De‑escalate agitated individuals, use verbal and non‑verbal communication skills, and provide calming support to distressed or aggressive persons, including mental‑health patients.
* Physically restrain and escort persons when necessary, applying appropriate levels of physical effort under clinical guidance and legal frameworks.
* Engage with internal security teams, administrative staff, ward staff and departmental managers, as well as external agencies such as police and emergency services.
Working Hours
* 12‑hour shift patterns: days and nights.
* Required to work across the three sites – Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, and Glenfield Hospital.
