Job Description
The Environment Agency is recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for an experienced regulator or technical specialist in the energy sector. The role will focus on regulating combustion plants, waste incineration, and refineries, ensuring compliance with statutory environmental and technical requirements.

Responsibilities
* Provide expert technical support, advice, guidance and training to internal and external stakeholders.
* Develop strategy and tools to support regulation, development and environmental outcomes across the energy sectors.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work collaboratively with Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other industry partners.
* Respond to incidents and offer business continuity support during emergencies.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business Directorate. Technical experts lead on sector standards and provide:
* Strategic direction and tools for sector regulation.
* Guidance and training to deliver new duties.
* Environmental best practice.
Experience and Skills Required
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge with experience in energy, combustion or waste processing sectors.
* Evidence of control measures for emissions to air and other environmental safeguards.
* Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Strong teamwork skills and commitment to common goals.
