HR Assistant – Maternity Cover (Fixed Term 18 months)

Contract: Fixed term 18 months
Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week with flexible hybrid working after probation

TC Group, a top 20 accountancy firm in the UK, is looking for an HR Assistant to cover maternity leave in our Portsmouth office. You will be a key member of the team from day one, working closely with Partners and Senior Managers and taking full HR administration responsibility for a region of 500+ staff.
Key responsibilities:
* Manage new starter and leaver processes, including payroll documentation and payslip checks.
* Monitor sickness records, manage contractual changes and employee life‑cycle tasks.
* Maintain the employee database and support the Head of HR and HR Manager with projects.
* Process contractual and payroll information with speed, accuracy and excellent service.
* Work independently and maintain the highest standards of confidentiality.
About You – we are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
* Previous experience in HR or payroll (advantageous).
* Experience in an administrative role in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
* Excellent IT skills and great attention to detail.
* Hardworking, self‑starter with a strong willingness to learn and grow.
* Ability to pick up new concepts quickly and change priorities swiftly.
* Confidence with formatting documentation and numbers.
* Team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude and efficient, personable communication.
