Screen Education Edinburgh (SEE) has been changing lives through filmmaking for 45 years. Scotland’s oldest filmmaking organisation, we work across Education, Community and Talent to build skills, confidence and progression routes for people who might not otherwise access the artform. In 2025, 91% of learners reported increased film knowledge, 89% increased technical skills and 92% increased confidence. Learners win BAFTAs; patron Irvine Welsh champions our work; and Creative Scotland is investing £740k (2025–2028). This new Communications Officer post will define SEE’s voice, grow audiences (especially young people and underrepresented communities) and help deliver our 2025–2028 plan. Responsibilities Manage and develop SEE’s external communications: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, website copy/content, email marketing (Mailchimp) and our video/image archive (including YouTube). Plan, create and schedule content; use data and insights to improve performance; and lead on larger campaigns (e.g., course launches) as required. Run day-to-day social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn): write/collate content, schedule, and manage community engagement. Maintain an editorial calendar with forward planning across the team. Track performance using insights/analytics and iterate to grow reach and engagement by audience and platform. Manage email marketing in Mailchimp: draft, schedule and maintain templates. Improve approach through segmentation, testing and appropriate frequency. Grow and engage the subscriber base. Keep the website up to date: refresh copy and imagery; write new pages, blogs or case studies as needed. Use UTM tracking and analytics to understand channel performance and audience behaviour. Support any longer-term website refresh project if taken forward. Create and maintain a simple tone of voice guide; ensure consistency across channels. Lead on storytelling: learner/educator voices, testimonials, case studies and wins. Organise and maintain the photo/video archive; identify ‘hero’ assets and gaps. Support audience development by tailoring messages by platform and priority audience. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Essential: Experience in communications/marketing (ideally third sector, cultural or education). Excellent writing and storytelling; able to adapt tone across audiences and channels. Hands-on social media management (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube) with evidence of growth/engagement. Content creation across formats (copy, image, video) and basic design/editing workflows. Confident using analytics to set KPIs, report, and improve performance. Strong organisation, prioritisation and stakeholder communication. Proactive and collaborative, able to work independently with support from the team. Familiar with tools such as Microsoft Office, Mailchimp, Meta Business Suite, Canva/Adobe (or equivalent). Commitment to access, equity and inclusion in creative education. Desirable: Knowledge of Scotland’s film/screen sector and/or education/third sector settings. Understanding of barriers faced by people in areas of economic/social exclusion. Experience running paid social ads (Meta/LinkedIn). CONTACTS AND RELATIONSHIPS Build and maintain effective working relationships across SEE and with external partners. Key relationships include: Principal Officer (line manager): align on communications priorities, strategy and delivery. Internal team (incl. Skills & Qualifications, Creative Engagement, tutors, admin, facilities): gather stories and information for web, email and social. Partner organisations across the screen, cultural and third sectors. Organisation and Context Screen Education Edinburgh is dedicated to filmmaking for all.
