Your future role
Follow the structured 2-year Graduate Development Programme, targeting IET competencies with the aim to achieve Chartered or Incorporated status as an Electrical Systems Engineer.
Graduates will undertake placements in various departments in order to get a good understanding of the wider business and operations, helping to develop personal reputation as well as providing a rewarding work experience. The placements are developed with the Graduate Engineer, the Line Manager and the Mentor.
After completing the scheme, we will look to move you into a first appointment role. The first appointment role is based on staged development starting with management of individual tasks and developing into management of work packages and even small projects. This ensures that the responsibilities of the Graduate Engineer continue to increase, supporting further development of competencies.
As part of the UK Specialist Engineering Services team, you will be responsible for supporting:
1. Alstom modernisation projects and tenders
2. Technical support for train fleets in service
3. Technical support for any potential new build train projects
The work content will involve:
4. Developing designs that meet specification requirements for functionality, safety, reliability and cost
5. Integrating electrical/electronic systems
6. Producing additional documentation to support the procurement, manufacture, installation, testing and approval of the design
7. Preparing for and participate in design reviews covering work undertaken by the individual and by others
8. Participating in validation testing and inspection of first components
9. Ensuring materials selected are compliant to relevant standards and fit for purpose
10. Supporting production staff in ensuring first vehicle build is undertaken correctly
11. Investigating and resolve problems found during production
You will have the opportunity to complete on the job learning, which is complemented by a modular personal development programme. Supported by a mentor, you will be able to work towards gaining a relevant professional qualification.

You will need a minimum 2:1 BEng or MEng in Electrial/Electronics Engineering or Physics degree.
