Main duties of the job We’re looking for an enthusiastic & dedicated Practice educator to join the Cardiovascular and Thoracic team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). You will be an integral part of the team helping support the delivery of the divisional education programmes for heart failure, heart disease, Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic surgery departments. This is a great opportunity to help with the way courses are delivered to new and existing staff, whilst working in partnership with the divisional education and practice lead, lead educator, the multi professional team and other practice educators to improve acuity practice, clinical nursing and service delivery. You will also be expected to work clinically with staff on the wards, providing teaching at the bedside and supporting their development. What You’ll Do Detailed job description and main responsibilities The delivery of mandatory training such as resus and moving & handling Undertaking teaching to support Divisional and Care group education activities such as IV study days, care group inductions and preceptorship courses. The coordination & delivery of student nurse inductions Working with Staff Nurses that are new to the care group to develop their clinical skills Helping to support the trust with training for Internationally Educated Nurses Liaising with management teams regarding staff development & career progression. WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Senior Band 5/6 or equivalent experience in cardiovascular and thoracic or related specialty Experience with developing nursing/Healthcare professions practice Experience of educating and developing staff Person specification Trust Values Essential criteria Patient First Always Improving Working Together Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience Essential criteria Professional requirements e.g. Registered Nurse or Registered Professional or Non-registered support worker etc Professional knowledge acquired through degree education or equivalent experience Mentoring / coaching / education qualification to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent evidence of supporting learners in practice Evidence of ongoing professional development Significant experience within relevant field Experience of educating others in a formal or informal setting Broad awareness of Trust initiatives/pressures Desirable criteria Education at a master's degree level Further education at a master's degree level in relevant practice area Leadership qualification or significant equivalent experience Previous Band 6 experience Further evidence of speciality competence
