Civil Deputy and IRT Lead - Bridgwater, UK
Are you ready to take on a pivotal role in one of the most exciting construction projects in the UK? As the Civil Team Deputy and IRT Lead at EDF UK, you will be at the heart of the Joint Design Office at the HPC construction site, driving the design clarifications, modifications, and justifications needed to meet critical project milestones.
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
We are looking to recruit for the role of Civil Team Lead Deputy and IRT Lead, in the Joint Design Office (JDO), for the HPC project.
The Joint Design Office (JDO) is part of the HPC Engineering Directorate. Within its scope of delegated authority, the JDO provides technical support to the HPC site for the resolution of technical issues arising during construction works as well as MEH erection, commissioning, and testing. We’re talking about everything from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, gym membership to season ticket loans.
Whether you\\\'re in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We’d like our future workforce to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+, those with a disability and supporting social mobility.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. We take pride in fostering a dynamic and inclusive environment, where the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our employees drive fresh thinking and innovation. As the Civil Team Deputy and IRT Lead, you will manage the Integrated Reactive Team (IRT) within the N1 area team, which includes staff from EPR-E, NNB, and partners. Your role is crucial in delivering technical solutions to unlock urgent construction activities. You will work closely with engineering contractor teams from Atkins, INGEROP, and ICOS, ensuring that relevant deliverables, such as detailed designs and calculations, are updated and modified as required. Your leadership will be key in driving the team to meet project milestones and deliver high-quality results.
Your expertise will help navigate the complexities of the HPC construction site, ensuring that all design clarifications, modifications, and justifications are provided promptly and accurately. Your role will have a significant impact on the success of the project, making it an exciting and rewarding opportunity.
You are a civil engineer with experience in the design of buildings in the nuclear industry or with experience in subjects at the interface between design and construction. Your knowledge of Nuclear Civil design and structures, along with previous design experience in a nuclear engineering centre, will be invaluable. You’ll have experience with 2D and 3D design software and have worked in a multicultural environment. Knowledge of the HPC project or previous EPR and associated studies/doctrine is a real asset. Your management experience, particularly in managing staff and transverse technical topics, will be crucial.
Your excellent interpersonal skills, conscientiousness, and organisational abilities will help you excel in this role. Proficiency in English, both written and oral, is essential for document production, steering, and interfacing with various correspondents. Join us and we\\\'ll help Britain achieve Net Zero together.
