Overview
Following is a brief Job Description of this Data Center Technician Position. Our customer has a data center with various devices. The role is not a Network Admin but involves physical data center tasks such as consoling and granting access to the NOC engineer on call, labeling fiber and cat6 cables, rack & stack, cabling, verifying racks and devices, replacing or adding SFPs, sending/receiving new equipment, etc. The person should be able to work in a data center environment and carefully perform these tasks without disturbing existing equipment. The candidate will be oriented before starting. The position requires confidence in data center working environment experience and basic networking knowledge. This is a per diem job with varying hours. A 10-15 minute pre-screening call is required before start.
Responsibilities
* Provide eyes and hands in the data center, handling tasks without disturbing existing equipment.
* Console and grant access to the NOC engineer on call.
* Label fiber and Cat6 cables, perform rack & stack, and cabling tasks.
* Verify racks and devices, replace or add SFPs, and manage sending/receiving new equipment.
* Follow orientation guidance and work safely in the data center environment.
Qualifications
* At least 2 years of Data Center experience.
* Per diem position; hours vary.
* Hands-on experience with cabling (Crossover, Rollover, or Straight Through) and understanding of multimode & single mode fiber.
* Ability to identify PDUs and cord types such as C13, C14, and C19.
* Experience with structured cabling and home run cabling.
* Knowledge of Twinax or multimode connections for Cisco UCS to fiber connect.
