The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, with shared office space, attending when necessary, and remaining days working remotely. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across this region.
Our Structures Team is involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering projects across Scotland, with values exceeding £1bn.
Amey manages long-term trunk road network contracts and a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and transportation projects across the UK.
The role
Our Lead Bridge Engineers support the Design team and work closely with Transport Scotland. They lead projects, mentor junior designers, and ensure technical excellence.
Responsibilities include:
* Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions
* Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation
* Overseeing junior staff and ensuring quality standards
* Managing project budgets and costs
* Liaising with clients and suppliers
* Contributing to bids and work-winning activities
* Promoting health and safety practices
What you will bring to us:
* Experience as a Senior Engineer or similar
* Ability to produce compliant engineering solutions independently
* Experience with health, safety, and welfare management
* Knowledge of design processes and ability to check designs
* Proficiency with relevant software and analytical tools
* Understanding of CDM and risk management
* Capability to act as Principal Designer
* People management skills
* Incorporated or Chartered status preferred
