Role Description
We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Commercial Director with a proven track record in service delivery, team leadership, and client account management. The role will lead and grow the cost and commercial team delivering Residential and Commercial Development projects across South West England and South Wales, while enhancing commercial capability, service performance, and client experience.
This position requires experience delivering and leading multi-million-pound projects or programmes, managing regional cost management teams, building strong client relationships, and generating new business opportunities.
Working within our Places business area, this is a key leadership role within the Property Sector. We are seeking an individual passionate about improving quality of life, committed to teamwork, and capable of inspiring others while contributing to the transformation of the built environment.
Role accountabilities
* Lead and manage internal teams and resources on technically complex projects typically ranging from £1m to £100m
* Motivate and develop a team of technical specialists, setting objectives and reviewing performance to ensure efficient cost and commercial services
* Manage financial performance across the project lifecycle, ensuring profit, budget, and value targets are achieved
* Oversee commercial aspects of projects, supporting delivery within budget and contract requirements
* Monitor team performance and behaviour, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and codes of conduct
* Ensure compliance with contractual project delivery parameters and scope
* Analyse complex information and oversee specialist recommendations to improve long‑term service performance
* Drive continuous improvement and implement enhancements to cost and commercial management systems
* Manage relationships with key customers to improve service delivery and customer satisfaction
* Act as a technical expert, providing strategic cost and commercial advice to senior managers
* Build strong relationships with senior clients and stakeholders to drive satisfaction and create new business opportunities
Qualifications & Experience
* Chartered professional with relevant cost and commercial management experience across full project lifecycles (£10m–£100m+)
* Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage large teams
* Experience building executive‑level client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor
* Knowledge of the South West market, particularly Exeter and Bristol and knowledge of the South Wales/Cardiff market is advantageous
* Relevant professional qualification or chartered status, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
* CSCS card holder
