The successful applicant will join our Breast Surgery Department in a role focused exclusively on this specialty. This position does not include any out-of-hours on-call commitments, with working hours set between 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
The role is to support the delivery of breast diagnosis and treatment in the Swansea Bay University Teaching Hospital Breast Service. The role will have a mix of theatre, outpatient and ward work.
The schedule for this role will be flexible, combining fixed sessions with opportunities to cover leave, participate in training, and develop advanced skills in breast surgery, breast surgical oncology, or oncoplastic breast surgery. Specific training objectives will be agreed upon at the start of the post.
Breast surgery takes place across the Health Board's three hospital sites at Singleton, Neath Port Talbot and Morriston, and the successful candidate will need to work at all three sites, but will be based at Singleton Hospital.
Main duties of the job
 1. New patient breast clinic including assessing breast emergencies.
 2. Theatre (3 per week) between Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospital site and on occasion the Morriston Hospital site.
 3. Ward rounds (3 per week) between Singleton and Neath Port Talbot Hospital site, and occasionally Morriston Hospital.
 4. Supporting the Breast Care Nurses and the Registrar in the Wound Clinic.
 5. Supporting professional activities (1 per week).
 6. Attending Breast MDT (1 per week).
The list is indicative of the workload however there will be flexibility to be arranged in discussion with the successful candidate and at the weekly timetable meeting. The successful candidate will need to have their own transport and be able to commute between all three hospital sites. There is no out of hours on call commitment with this post, although there will on occasion be early starts and late finishes, these will be compensated for by time in lieu.

 * MB/BS or equivalent
 * Full GMC Registration to cover the scope of employment
 * MRCS or equivalent
 * Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent

CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Essential
 * 4 years post qualification experience of which 2 years must be in a general or breast surgery post
 * Competent in procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc
 * Evidence of keeping professional knowledge and skills up to date
Desirable
 * Experience working at middle grade in a surgical speciality
 * Previous breast surgery experience
