East Suffolk & North Essex NHS Foundation Trust - Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Haematology & Blood Transfusion)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join us in Haematology & Blood Transfusion at Ipswich Hospital. You will join a friendly and busy MHRA and UKAS compliant hospital laboratory that is committed to training and development of our staff. We are an IBMS accredited training laboratory for registration and specialist portfolios.

You must have completed your haematology specialist portfolio. Once competent, experienced staff will participate in an out-of-hours roster, which attracts a night rate enhancement for lone working.

We are equipped with Grifols, Sysmex XNs and ACL TOPS analysers. Our LIMS is Lab Centre. Previous working knowledge of these technologies would be an advantage.

Our vision is to deliver innovations and high-performing pathology services that are focussed on our customers, delivering high quality and fully compliant services.

We are clinically led and designed to achieve the benefits of scale by working together to meet our service users' needs and support the excellent clinical care provided by our hospitals.

We are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best pathology staff. We encourage our staff to undertake internal and external courses to aid their development. You will play an integral part in helping to train our junior staff to develop their skills and careers.

Specialist Biomedical Scientist Job Information

Our pathology department is part of the collaborative East Coast Pathology Network (see attached document).

You will enjoy a varied range of responsibilities, including maintaining the quality management system and UKAS accreditation, training and supervision of less experienced members of staff, validating and authorising results, and providing a safe quality service for our patients.

You will be expected to resolve complex equipment or process problems and perform manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations, including specialist investigations, within defined service areas accurately and efficiently.

You will participate in the day-to-day management of stock control and usage. This may include maintaining Blood Transfusion stock levels and records and monitoring usage to ensure efficient use where appropriate.

We are ESNEFT and provide hospital and community health services to almost one million people across east Suffolk and north Essex. Our dedicated staff deliver care from acute hospitals in Colchester and Ipswich, community hospitals, surgeries, community clinics and in patients’ own homes.

We are one of the largest NHS organisations in England, employing more than 12,000 staff.

We pride ourselves on supporting our staff. We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities, as well as flexible working options. Along with supporting you to achieve your career goals we offer a generous pension scheme, unsocial hours payments (where applicable), 27 days annual leave on commencement (pro rata) and access to a range of NHS discounts. Our Staff Health and Wellbeing programme offers a variety of services.

Our philosophy is that time matters to everyone. Across the Trust, we concentrate on improving the things we do and removing those which cause time delays for our staff and patients.

We are investing in our commitment to Time Matters with a partnership with the leading electronic patient record (EPR) supplier Epic. This digital transformation will bring the world’s best EPR system to ESNEFT, transforming life in hospital for staff and patients.

If you are passionate about patient care and want to develop your skills and knowledge, then we want to hear from you.
