Position: Commissioning Manager (Outside IR35)
Type: Permanent
Salary: £50 - £60 per hour, depending on experience
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Manager to join our team for an exciting new product in the marine/naval defence market. In this role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end commissioning of this craft.
This is a hands-on position ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has a passion for high-quality, safety-critical projects. Responsibilities include:
1. Lead Multi-Disciplinary Commissioning: Manage all commissioning activities for the craft’s systems, including LV and HV systems, mechanical, hydraulic, and embedded software & controls.
2. Project Planning & Execution: Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and schedules.
3. Team Leadership: Lead a small, multidisciplinary, cross-functional team of engineers.
4. Testing & Troubleshooting: Conduct rigorous subsystem and system-level tests, including power distribution, software, hydraulics, and propulsion.
5. Quality & Safety Compliance: Maintain a safety-first culture during all trials, including workshops and at-sea testing.
6. Documentation & Handover: Provide detailed documentation of results, test reports, configurations, and modifications.
7. Stakeholder Communication: Provide progress updates to internal and end-user representatives, working with project management, design teams, and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant engineering field.
* Hands-on experience in systems commissioning for complex engineering projects involving electrical, mechanical, and software elements.
* Experience in maritime vessels, submarines, automotive, aerospace prototypes, or industrial automation systems.
* Knowledge of low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) electrical systems, including power distribution and control circuits.
* Familiarity with mechanical systems (engines, drives, pneumatics/hydraulics) and their control mechanisms.
* Prior experience as a team lead or manager in a testing or commissioning environment.
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, especially under pressure during testing phases.
* Full UK Driving License.
Desirable:
* Experience in Autonomous Systems.
* Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (CEng or IEng).
* Experience in software engineering.
* SC clearance. Candidates must be able to obtain BPSS clearance and have the right to work in the UK.
