Overview
Due to growth, we are recruiting for a Design Manager to join our Construction team to deliver the expansion of HMP Channings Wood. Within the role, you will support the delivery of projects at preconstruction and construction stages, working collaboratively with the project team to maximise scheme outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Compile Consultant Appointments, aligning of scope and accountabilities to stakeholder and contractual requirements. Contribute to key subcontract design orders.
* Manage design from RIBA Stage 3 to completion by liaising with all project stakeholders up till and including handover.
* Develop the Design Management Plan and implement Kier design processes including Client approvals.
* Understand the Client brief and Contractor's Proposals to achieve an optimal design solution to eliminate inherent defects and improve buildability. Contribute to the completion of Inspection & Test Plans.
* Develop and define design outputs within the design release schedules to achieve requirements of the Integrated Construction Programme and Client sign off items. Ensure that accurate information is released in the correct format at the right time. Monitor and record Consultant and Subcontractor design Progress.
* Manage the process of designing the solution for a project in order to meet or exceed customers' requirements. Identify contractual, financial, technical and operational risks in order to minimise financial exposure for Kier and the Client.
* Ensure the design supply chain complies with the CDM Regulations and other applicable regulations, and provide support to ensure that Kier fulfils their duties when appointed as the Principal Designer. Implement Safe Design & Installation Process requirements.
* Ensure that the design meets environmental, waste and CO2 targets and protects the Environment.
Qualifications and requirements
* Construction design experience on projects, ideally with a Tier 1 contractor.
* HNC or above in a construction or design related discipline.
* An ability to build relationships with and engage all stakeholders.
* Ability to work independently and on numerous assets.
* To be considered for the role, applicants will have construction design experience of schemes ideally with a Tier 1 contractor.
