We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in Hornchurch, starting as soon as possible. This is a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with special educational needs and make a meaningful difference to their learning, confidence, and wellbeing. The school has a strong inclusive ethos and a well-established SEN provision. Staff work closely with the SENCO, class teachers, and external professionals to ensure pupils receive consistent and effective support. The leadership team is supportive and values the contribution of SEN support staff. As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils who may have a range of additional needs, including autism (ASD), ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH). Support may be delivered on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, depending on pupil needs. Key Responsibilities Provide targeted support to pupils with special educational needs Work 1:1 or in small groups to support learning and engagement Assist pupils with academic tasks, communication, and emotional regulation Support the implementation of EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour plans Encourage positive behaviour and social interaction Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and playtimes Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and support staff Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback Promote independence while offering appropriate support Follow safeguarding, behaviour, and inclusion policies at all times The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Have a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs Be confident managing behaviour and supporting emotional needs Have strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable Be committed to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or communication needs is highly desirable, though training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
