Our client is a national charity that supports people approaching the end of life or living with grief, believing that no one has to face dying or grief alone. We are looking for an In House Lawyer to join the dedicated legal team and provide expert legal advice across a range of areas, ensuring compliance with regulations and managing legal risk.
This is a hybrid position based in Essex/Suffolk, with 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home, offering flexibility around ad‑hoc meetings as required.
About the role
* Provide advice on broad legal issues, including public law, commercial law, intellectual property, and charity‑specific regulations to support organisational strategy.
* Provide strategic advice to senior management and stakeholders.
* Identify, assess, and manage legal and regulatory risks for the charity and maintain the Legal Risk Registers.
* Ensure the organisation complies with its statutory and regulatory framework.
* Oversee property transactions, leases, and draft commercial contracts.
* Advise on employment contracts, workplace policies, and handle related disputes.
* Protect the charity's intellectual property, such as trademarks and copyrights.
* Analyse legal challenges, identify solutions, and make informed decisions in complex and ambiguous situations.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders, legal team members, and external partners to develop strategies, set priorities, and achieve legal objectives aligned with the charity's mission.
* Participate in committees and project groups.
About you
* Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal issues.
* Committed to continuous professional development and staying abreast of evolving legal trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
* Strong proficiency in navigating relevant legislation impacting charitable contexts.
* Good understanding of property law and commercial pragmatism with the ability to provide practical advice to charities.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and convey legal concepts to non‑legal audiences.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast‑paced environment.
* Demonstrated expertise in legacy management, including estate administration, legacy gifts, and charitable bequests.
The person
* Qualified solicitor with experience in any of the following areas of law: charity law, probate law, property law, conveyancing, employment law and tribunals, contract law, and data protection legislation.
* Data Protection certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT or equivalents.
