We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused IT Assistant to join our internal IT team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their IT career in a professional legal environment. Where will you be based? This role will be based in our Durham office, but we may expect you to travel and work from other offices from time to time. How many hours will you be working? This is a full-time role which is 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday with an hour’s break for lunch. However, at EMG Solicitors we work flexibly, it’s not a 9 to 5 role, but we do expect the work to be done, when you do it can be largely up to yourself, your Team Leader and the requirements of your clients. A brief overview of the role: As an IT Assistant, you will be the first point of contact for all IT-related queries within the firm. You will provide technical support to staff across multiple departments, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations and maintaining high standards of service. Getting paid for the work you do. Provide first-line technical support via phone, email, and in-person. Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues. Set up and configure new user accounts, laptops, desktops, and mobile devices. Maintain and update IT documentation and asset registers. Escalate complex issues to senior IT staff or external providers when necessary. Support and maintain legal-specific applications and case management systems. Participate in IT projects such as system upgrades, migrations, and deployments. Document technical procedures and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team. To be able to perform this job you will need. Previous experience in a helpdesk or IT support role (1 year preferred). Strong knowledge of Windows OS, Microsoft 365, and basic networking. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks. A proactive and problem-solving mindset. Understanding of confidentiality and data security, especially in a legal context. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Driving License and your own car. Desirable Experience working in a legal or professional services environment. Familiarity with legal software is a plus. Relevant IT certifications (e.g., CompTIA A, ITIL, Microsoft Certified).
