Location: Coventry Employment Type: Permanent Salary: £50,000 – £55,000 (dependent on experience) Department: Engineering & Projects Reports To: Engineering Manager Overview Our Bluechip Manufacturing Client is seeking a skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of mechanical systems, equipment, and assemblies used in industrial process applications. The role will oversee a small team of mechanical designers, ensuring design quality, accuracy, and delivery against project requirements. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design activities from concept through to production for process and machinery systems. Manage and check design output from the mechanical design team, ensuring compliance with standards and specifications. Produce 3D models, fabrication drawings, assemblies, and BOMs. Any 3D CAD Experience is great. Work closely with Project Managers to allocate resources, plan workloads, and track design progress. Oversee drawing release, revision control, and document management processes. Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and peer review for other designers. Liaise with suppliers, fabricators, and internal departments to resolve technical queries. Support installation and commissioning activities as required. Ensure designs meet safety, quality, and engineering best-practice standards. Key Requirements HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). 8 years of mechanical design experience in machinery, process, or automation industries. Proficient in Autodesk Inventor and Vault; strong 3D modelling and detailing capability. Strong understanding of mechanical fabrication, pipework, and assembly practices. Experience checking drawings, managing design data, and implementing design standards. Confident communicator with experience coordinating between design, project, and production teams. Leadership or team coordination experience highly desirable. Desirable Knowledge of P&IDs and process equipment design. Familiarity with CE marking, machinery safety, and design for manufacture (DFM). Experience working in fluid systems, coatings, or chemical processing environments.
