Job Description:
Following its recent acquisition by SLR, Wardell Armstrong now forms part of a leading global environmental and sustainability consultancy working on projects across the world from over 100 offices. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior/Principal Geotechnical and/or Mining Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have between 5 to 8 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in consultancy, across ground investigation, engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, and mining (desirable but not essential).
Overview of team / business area
With an industry-leading and award-winning ground engineering team of chartered geologists, engineers, and environmental scientists, together with our Specialists in Land Contamination (SiLC), we support projects from feasibility, through planning, and on to successful completion.
The role
Project work will be varied, with a strong focus on renewable energy, infrastructure, residential schemes, and other commercial development projects. Projects will primarily be within Wales and the Southwest, with occasional work further afield within the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
* Managing ground engineering projects (commensurate with experience), assisting team leads with resource allocation and financial budgets, addressing client feedback, and ensuring effective communication on all projects.
* Designing and supervising ground investigations using various techniques, ensuring surveys meet required standards by all staff.
* Preparing technical reports such as Desk Studies, Ground Investigation Reports, Geotechnical Design Reports, Slope Stability Assessments, Coal Mining Risk Assessments, Earthworks Strategies, and Compaction Specifications.
* Designing and supervising earthworks and compaction specifications.
* Assisting team leads with fee proposal preparations.
* Actively participating as a member of the ground engineering team, collaborating with the wider team, and mentoring junior staff.
About you
* Experience managing projects to completion and reporting to standards required by planning authorities, Mining Remediation Authority, Natural Resources Wales, Environment Agency, and similar bodies.
* Experience preparing various technical reports.
* Experience applying for Mining Remediation Authority licenses and permits.
* Proficient in designing ground investigations and preparing bills of quantities.
* Skilled in supervising ground investigations and earthworks.
* Experience supervising ground stabilization activities such as drilling and grouting mine workings is advantageous but not essential.
* Good knowledge of UK and European legislation, policies, and guidance, including BS5930 and Euro Code 7.
* Willingness to participate in networking events.
* SSSTS, CSCS, and PTS qualifications are desirable but not essential.
* Full UK driving license and access to own car are essential.
