We are looking fora visionary leader with extensive experience leading a clinical MRI service to lead and develop the service at all 3 sites of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust.

This dynamic job role will consist of managing the MRI service across 3 different sites, Royal Preston Hospital (RPH), Chorley District Hosptial (CDH) and a Community Diagnostic Centre mobile scanner. The MRI department at RPH is a bright and spacious building which provides a suite of 4 scanners including a 3T Siemens Skyra scanner, 2 x 1.5T Philips Ingenia scanners and an Esaote Oscan 0.3T extremity scanner. The Trust is looking to install an open scanner in the near future to enable improved patient experience.

You will lead a welcoming MRI team who have continuously worked hard to receive four GOLD star ratings in recent STAR (Safety triangulation accreditation review) visits.

You must have proven excellent clinical skills and lead the provision of the highest quality patient care. You must ensure the service meets all Trust and national standards complying with the MHRA and QSI whilst meeting financial and other performance targets.

In this post, you will provide a diverse range of MR examinations for both adult and paediatric patients. We perform a variety of advanced neuro examinations including functional scans.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Principal Radiographer is to lead and develop the Magnetic Resonance Imaging service across all sites of the Trust -being accountable for the delivery, planning and development of the service that meets Radiology, Trust and National standards.

1. Provide a safe and effective 24h MRI service for the patients of Preston, Chorley, South Ribble and the LSC
2. Effectively manage capacity and demand ensuring compliance with KPIs.
3. Organise and chair meetings within Radiology and the wider Trust
4. Represent the Trust providing MRI expertise to other centres in the region.
5. Evaluate and lead on procurement of equipment relating to the MR service
6. Manage and monitor the budget for the MRI service
7. Be responsible for the recruitment, training, attendance, development and performance of staff.
8. Lead a culture of patient care which consistently delivers high standards.
9. Proactively manage risk and lead on investigations promoting a safety first culture.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties to include but not be limited to:

10. Lead the MRI service across 3 sites within Lancashire Teaching Hospital Trust, ensuring high standards of image quality and patient care at all times.

11. Comply with the current MHRA guidelines to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff at all times within the MR controlled area.

12. Manage the workflow in the area you are working in including out-patients, in-patients, and patients from the emergency department.

13. Manage equipment procurement and maintenance according to Trust policy

14. Lead audits for the department ensuring excellent clinical governance in all aspects of patient care.

15. Implement Trust policies and procedures to ensure a safe effective environment and service for all.

16. Ensure accurate and timely documentation in line with information governance good practice.

17. Support and develop others within the department.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

18. BSc in Diagnostic Radiography or Equivalent
19. Post Graduate qualification in MRI
20. MSc or equivalent experience in MRI including leadership
21. HCPC registration

Desirable criteria

22. Special interest group involvement

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria

23. Extensive independent clinical practice and leadership in speciality supported by CPD
24. Experience of leading an area and supervising staff
25. Understanding of challenges faced in a busy Radiology teaching and research environment that supports a wide range of complex clinical examinations
26. Knowledge of booking and capacity planning
27. Knowledge of procurement systems and a track record of equipment management
28. Knowledge of IR(ME)R and IRR/ MHRA
29. Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
30. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures
31. Knowledge of ethical issues

Desirable criteria

32. Multimodality experience and knowledge
33. Experience of budgetary management.
34. Experience in research and development.
35. Planning and commissioning of new equipment
