Role Summary Join one of the UK’s most recognised precious metal retailers as we strengthen our financial crime and compliance frameworks during an exciting period of transformation. We’re looking for a Compliance & Financial Crime Manager to join our Compliance function on a 3-6 month Fixed Term Contract, based on-site in our Birmingham headquarters. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role with high visibility across the business, ideal for someone who can operate with minimal supervision while shaping and enhancing core financial crime controls. You’ll work closely with our experienced Head of Compliance & MLRO, taking ownership of critical project-based workstreams; including components of the Business Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA) and Customer Risk Assessment (CRA) frameworks, and policy and procedure enhancements; whilst also supporting day-to-day financial crime operations, investigations, and internal monitoring. The ideal candidate will be confident in leading workstreams, guiding others where necessary without direct line management responsibilities, and acting with a consultative mindset within a dynamic and maturing function. Key Responsibilities Financial Crime Prevention * Monitor and escalate suspicious activity and red flags; support high quality SAR drafting. * Conduct CDD/ EDD and Sanctions/ PEP screening. * Identify, assess, and escalate emerging financial crime and fraud risks. * Collaborate with operational teams to implement enhanced fraud and AML controls. Policy, Framework, and Governance Development * Draft, review and uplift key financial crime-related policies and procedures in line with MLR 2017 and JMLSG guidance. * Contribute to the development and enhancement of our Business Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA) and Customer Risk Assessment (CRA) tools and methodologies. * Ensure policies are aligned with regulatory and legislative requirements, internal control expectations, and operational needs. Monitoring, Investigations, and Internal Controls * Perform day-to-day AML monitoring, including triaging cases and conducting investigative reviews. * Maintain accurate records in line with regulatory expectations. * Identify potential internal control weaknesses and work with stakeholders to define and deliver improvements. Project Delivery and Stakeholder Engagement * Own delivery of assigned workstreams, including documentation, implementation, and handover. * Act as compliance and financial crime advisor to internal stakeholders, ensuring clear, accurate and practical guidance. * Report progress on project-based deliverables to the Head of Compliance and other relevant senior leadership where required. Training and Coaching: Provide informal oversight and support to junior colleagues. Contribute to internal awareness campaigns and/ or initiatives on financial crime controls. Regulatory Support: Assist with data gathering and responses from regulators or law enforcement. Cross-functional Support: Support the broader compliance and risk function as required; contribute to related governance, reporting and Annex 1 FI obligations. Team Continuity: Cover or support responsibilities of colleagues during periods of absence, to ensure service level delivery. Other Duties: Carry out any additional duties within your skills and experience that may reasonably be required by the business. Skills & Experience Qualifications and Training * Minimum 5 years’ experience in an AML, Fraud, or Compliance role. * Experience in regulated sectors (e.g. fintech, e-money, payments, FX, or financial services). * Prior experience delivering projects or frameworks (e.g. BWRAs, CRAs, policy development). * Robust knowledge of data protection (GDPR) principles. * Relevant qualification (ICA or ACAMS) is desirable. Technical Skills and Experience * Strong understanding of UK AML Regulations; including MLRs 2017, POCA, and JMLSG guidance. * Proven ability to draft and maintain policies and procedures. * Experience with financial crime monitoring tools, case management systems and report-writing. * High attention to detail and accuracy in investigations and documentation. * Confident using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
