Job Overview

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. This is an Infection Prevention & Control Nurse/Practitioner role with a secondment opportunity for 30 hours per week in an infection prevention & control practitioner position to support the delivery of the infection prevention clinical advisory service and delivery of infection prevention improvement programmes/plans.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated member of staff with an interest in infection prevention to work within a friendly, experienced team to gain insight, knowledge and experience in infection prevention and control. You will work as part of the Infection Prevention Team in the provision of an Infection Prevention and Control Service within UHS, covering trust-wide sites including Southampton General Hospital, Princess Anne Hospital, Royal South Hants Hospital, New Forest Birthing Centre, Lymington Hospital, and the HIOW air ambulance service.

We are committed to supporting evidence-based care by leading trust-wide improvements in practice, formulating new research and promoting innovations to drive improvements in infection prevention practice. The team includes a clinical academic nurse specialist to support these aims.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Specific to this role we are open to discussing flexibility in the hours that you work. Please discuss the flexibility you need at interview and what is possible for the role and service.

As a Member Of The Team, You Will

* Provide advice to all disciplines and grades of staff on infection prevention and control.
* Participate in the infection prevention clinical advisory service, including infection incident and outbreak investigation and management.
* Support one of the three clinical Divisions to facilitate improvements in IP&C practice.
* Participate in audit, surveillance, education and training, quality improvement projects & initiatives.


What we’re looking for

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic individual who will join the infection prevention team and lead by example. You must be a registered practitioner with a range of post-registration experience. You must be able to work independently and within a team. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and time management skills. You must have recent evidence of interest in infection prevention and change management in practice and effective teaching skills.

There is one full-time permanent post, with an optional 6-8 month secondment (until end July 2026), working 30hrs per week (22.5 hrs per week could be considered).

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience

Essential criteria

* A registered practitioner (NMC/HCPC), with post-registration experience. Recent experience must have been at band 5
* Degree Level Qualification/study (or equivalent)
* Recent evidence of interest in infection prevention in practice
* Prepared to undertake a pathway of study/relevant qualification in infection prevention and control
* Recent evidence of change management in practice
* Evidence of professional development since registration

Desirable criteria

* Module of study in infection prevention and control practice
* Recent experience of working at Band 6
