This is an exciting opportunity to join the Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist team, based at Good Hope Hospital. The Haematology CNS team at Good Hope covers all disease groups, including myeloma, lymphoma, myeloid, and non-malignant conditions. The post-holder will work towards delivering nurse-led clinics and will be supported to undertake health assessments, non-medical prescribing, and advanced communication training if not already achieved.


Responsibilities include:

1. Act as an expert key worker for patients with a haematological diagnosis
2. Support consultant-led clinics for all malignant and non-malignant disease groups
3. Deliver nurse-led clinics for all malignant and non-malignant disease groups
4. Check bloods and titrate medication as required
5. Support newly diagnosed patients admitted to Good Hope Hospital
6. Review haematology inpatients at Good Hope Hospital where required
7. Support patients throughout the treatment pathway from diagnosis to end of treatment or palliative care
8. Support patients receiving bad news in clinics
9. Facilitate palliative care referrals
10. Perform non-medical prescribing
11. Conduct ad hoc face-to-face patient reviews for psychological support and symptom control
12. Provide expert advice to patients over the telephone and in person
13. Support patients' families
14. Support and educate staff at the Haematology/Oncology Day Unit
15. Attend MDT and governance meetings
16. Utilize electronic systems for documentation, including Somerset Cancer Register, PICS, and Clinical Portal

We seek a dynamic, forward-thinking haematology nurse with experience at Band 6 level. The team at Good Hope Hospital is welcoming and supportive, with backing from the wider team across all UHB sites, including the Haematology Lead Nurse and Matron, the wider CNS team, Cancer Support Workers, BMT Coordinator team, CAR T team, and Apheresis team.

This role is advertised as a Band 6/7 development post. Applicants with a health assessment qualification and readiness to commence non-medical prescribing will be appointed at Band 7. Those without the qualification will be appointed at Band 6 and can progress to Band 7 upon successful completion of the health assessment module and readiness to start non-medical prescribing. Non-medical prescribing is essential, and the successful candidate will be expected to obtain this qualification.
