Equal Opportunity / Accessibility and Accommodations Statement
As a Disability Confident employer, Aspens Charities is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with disabilities. We actively promote the recruitment, retention, and career development of people with disabilities, recognising the invaluable contributions they make to our organisation. We are dedicated to ensuring an accessible recruitment process for all candidates. If you require accommodations during the application or interview process, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
About the Role
We support a number of individuals with varying needs including autism, learning disabilities, Tourette’s, FND, and ADHD. When people we support find it difficult to communicate effectively, our staff are prepared to deal with complex and distressed behaviours on occasion, including physically supporting them to keep themselves and others safe from harm.
Quality of life is always our main focus, so we actively encourage our staff to build rapport with people through shared fun activities. We have found that when individuals share a common interest, they are more likely to build trusting and enjoyable relationships. The Specialist PBS Team will support the development of goals and behaviour plans, always focusing on the strengths of the individuals and progressing towards independence.
You will be working closely with service users who may be both verbal and non‑verbal and who will need additional support throughout their daily life. As a senior, you will work closely with one individual who is non‑verbal and has challenging behaviours that can result in self‑harm or harm to others. Any behaviour is a way of communication and can cause distress for the service user and those around them - it is key that you allow time to get to know them, understand each other and create a strong bond.
You will also support service users during positive moments, engaging in activities they love such as spending time with animals, going swimming, listening to music, and reading magazines.
