Job Summary Clinical Director, Derbyshire Pathology – Fixed term, 3 years, part‑time (12 hours per week).
Closing date: 28 June 2026.
Pay: £113,565 to £150,569 a session pro rata (per annum). Grade: Consultant. Salary within the Hospital medical and dental staff pay scheme.
Main Responsibilities
Develop and deliver the Business Unit strategy in line with Trust objectives.
Provide visible, effective clinical leadership across a multi‑site pathology network.
Accountable for clinical quality, patient safety, clinical governance and UKAS accreditation.
Oversee performance, operational delivery and achievement of national targets.
Drive service transformation, innovation and efficiency to improve access and patient experience.
Lead workforce planning and development – including job planning, appraisal and professional development.
Embed robust governance, risk management and financial stewardship across the service.
Collaborate with Trust colleagues, system partners and external stakeholders to support integrated delivery and improved outcomes.
Person Specification Essential qualifications
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in a relevant pathology specialty or Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) or equivalent.
At least 4 years of clinical management experience in pathology.
Employment in a substantive Consultant, SAS Doctor or Consultant Clinical Scientist role for at least 4 years and holding a significant management or lead clinician role.
Essential experience
Clinical governance, incident management and knowledge of UK cancer screening programmes and relevant pathology processes.
Experience with UKAS accreditation and/or ISO 15189:2022 compliance.
Desirable experience
Additional 4 years of clinical management experience in pathology.
Demonstrated success in transforming and improving pathology services.
