My client is a well-established UK-based bakery manufacturer producing high-quality baked goods for retail, wholesale, and food service markets. Job Description

Compliance & Risk Management

3. Develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental policies aligned with UK legislation and industry best practice (e.g., HSE guidance, RIDDOR, COSHH, HACCP).
4. Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments covering machinery safety, manual handling, allergen control, and hazardous substances.
5. Lead accident and incident investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions.
6. Provide monthly safety performance reports to senior leadership.

Environmental Management

7. Drive initiatives to reduce environmental impact, including waste management and emissions control.
8. Monitor compliance and identify opportunities for sustainability improvements.

Training & Engagement

9. Deliver or coordinate training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
10. Promote a positive safety culture and encourage proactive hazard reporting.

Incident & Claims Management

11. Manage workplace-related claims and liaise with insurers and statutory bodies.
12. Maintain accurate records in line with legal and company requirements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

13. Work cross-functionally with Production, Engineering, QA, and HR to embed safe systems of work.
14. Support teams in meeting safety and food hygiene standards.
15. Contribute to safety objectives and promote innovation.

Emergency Preparedness

16. Maintain and review emergency procedures including fire safety and evacuation.
17. Organise and lead regular emergency drills.

The Successful Applicant

Essential:

18. Level 6 IOSH or NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
19. 3-5 years' experience in a health & safety role within food manufacturing or industrial settings
20. Strong knowledge of UK health & safety legislation, HACCP, and food safety standards
21. Excellent communication and leadership skills
22. IT literacy and experience with safety management systems

Desirable:

23. IOSH membership (TechIOSH or GradIOSH)
24. Experience in bakery or similar food production environments
25. IRCA Auditor Certification
