About NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

The role
The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre (BWoSCC) in‑patient wards care for patients receiving chemotherapy, radiotherapy and relevant treatments for cancer. We operate 24/7. We are seeking an experienced and motivated professional to take on 24-hour continuing responsibility for the ward or department, providing visible clinical leadership to the nursing and midwifery team. You will play a central role in ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and high‑quality clinical practice, while driving continuous improvement across all aspects of patient care and team performance.
Duration, Location and Working Pattern
* This is a permanent post working 36 hours per week.
* These hours will be worked Monday to Friday from 0900 to 1700.
* This post will be based within the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.
* Interviews are due to take place on the 15th of May.
Key responsibilities
* Promote teamwork within a multi‑professional environment, demonstrating critical analysis and decision‑making skills while leading the delivery of a clinically excellent, high‑quality service.
* Influence and facilitate change within the ward or department and, where appropriate, across the organisation, ensuring visibility for patients, carers and relatives on a daily basis. Promote a clean, comfortable, caring and safe environment for staff, patients and visitors by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols, including health and safety, healthcare‑associated infection control, risk management and critical incident reporting and analysis, while assessing and managing actual and potential risks to health and well‑being.
* Coordinate the patient journey by planning and managing episodes of care, including smooth transitions to other settings, promoting effective discharge, and maintaining clear communication with interdisciplinary and interagency teams as required.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required
* First‑level nursing or midwifery qualification with registration on the appropriate part of the NMC Register relevant to the area, plus a first degree or evidence of continuing professional development equivalent to level 9 of the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) as a minimum.
* Demonstrated leadership skills, experience in quality improvement implementation, knowledge of clinically effective practice, patient safety and clinical expertise within a relevant area, or evidence of expert clinical and professional practice developed through experience and theoretical knowledge.
* Ability to maintain professional and personal credibility across all staff groups.
* Significant registration nursing experience essential with relevant clinical leadership.
