Main duties of the job
As part of the Outpatient Clinical Service Unit, you will provide administration support to the Outpatient clinics at St James University Hospital. Your duties include:
* Using the Patient Administration System for computer‑based work
* Providing front‑of‑house reception support
* Booking patient appointments in person and by telephone
* Ensuring all paperwork and systems are prepared in advance of appointments
* Completing all post‑clinic actions in a timely manner
* Working collaboratively with the Referral and Booking Service, Outpatient Nursing, Switchboard, Phlebotomy, and the Robotic Process Automation teams

* Strong literacy and numeracy skills for accurate record‑keeping and appointment management
* A commitment to undertake mandatory and role‑specific training as required
* A clear insight into the duties and responsibilities of the post and their impact on patient experience
* Self‑motivation and a commitment to delivering an efficient, high‑quality service in a busy environment
* Reliability and dependability, with a consistent approach to attendance, time‑keeping and work responsibilities
* A flexible and adaptable approach to duties and working practices, responding positively to changing service needs
* Competent keyboard skills for accurate and efficient work
* Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate politely, clearly and sensitively with patients, visitors and colleagues
* Ability to work independently using initiative and judgement, within Trust policies, procedures and guidelines
* Ability to work effectively as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver high‑quality patient‑centred services
