Four provider organisations in L&SC have committed to form a network and collaborate on pathology services, including, Blackpool Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. The intention is to form one pathology entity which will be hosted by one of the existing provider organisations.
You will provide day-to-day operational management of the immunology laboratory. You will also be quality lead, responsible for the maintenance of quality in line with UKAS standards. This includes allocating staff duties and lead BMS training & development within immunology.
Main duties of the job
This role is pivotal to help shape the future of immunology services within the region. We are looking to recruit someone who will develop and manage the service going forward.
You will need to demonstrate a track record of strong interpersonal skills and be able to influence and motivate others with the ability to successfully guide people through complex change. Being able to think innovatively and to communicate effectively with a wide range of staff across departments is essential.
As a Lead BMS you will oversee the operation and development of the immunology department.
The department is accredited by UKAS to ISO 15189
The appointment will be to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, however candidates should be aware that Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is part of a pathology collaboration project.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Duties to include but not be limited to:
1. Maintain effective communication strategies with colleagues across the Trust and external agencies to ensure service delivery.
2. Discuss and give expert technical advice and opinions on immunology issues.
3. To deal with professional and public enquires in an efficient, tactful and diplomatic manner.
4. Ensure the appropriate analysis of internal quality control and external quality assurance data and present this to senior staff meetings and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken.
5. To liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure continuity of service provision within the department section.
6. To communicate changes in equipment, technical, testing and other immunology laboratory protocols to other members of staff.
7. Deliver Team Brief to staff within immunology.
8. To attend and participate in departmental management and Pathology Management Group meetings as required.
9. Organise senior technical meetings and provide regular communication updates to all immunology laboratory staff, disseminate actions identified from the meetings.

Essential criteria
10. State registered BMS with HCPC
11. MSc or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Biomedical Science
12. Evidence of higher specialist training gained through short courses or distance learning or equivalent experience.
13. Recognised management qualification at certificate or diploma level or equivalent experience.
14. Evidence of commitment to CPD.

15. Up to date knowledge and extensive experience of immunology
