Who we are looking for
Westmorland and Furness Council,Highways and Transport service, are looking for an experienced,motivated, and friendly individual to join us as HighwaysNetwork Engineer. We are excited to offer this secondmentopportunity, and this is an excellent career step forcandidates with experience in highways, transportation andconstruction backgrounds, looking to join a large and thrivingorganisation.
In this role, you will assist withleading the Furness area Highways team; managing, preparing,designing and processing highway improvement and maintenanceprojects, as well as undertaking inventory collection. Thisincludes carrying out activities relating to surveys, design,specification, and data collection and input.
We are looking for strongcommunicators, as you will provide technical advice andguidance to colleagues in respect of specifications andstandards for highways design and maintenance. You will alsoprovide advice on the application of legislation, regulation,policy and principles to both internal and external customersof the Council.
This role is a great opportunity forcandidates who have significant experience of highway,transportation, or construction design, as well as a soundknowledge of local government and dealing with customers.Awareness of construction contracts, highway maintenanceactivities and national design standards is also essential. Youwill be able to work under pressure, and be an effective teammember, driving innovation and motivation throughout the teamand service.
Experience of Winter Maintenance isdesirable, as this role will support Winter Maintenanceactivities to given timescales, costs and specifications, butfull training and support will be given.
