Uppingham School, founded in 1584, is a leading co‑educational independent boarding school that runs 24/7 during term‑time. Job Purpose
We are seeking a self‑motivated and reliable Qualified Plumber for reactive tasks predominantly, but also assisting with PPM tasks and small project works. Experience working in an educational environment would be beneficial, as would a general maintenance background.
Responsibilities
* Predominantly reactive maintenance of both domestic and commercial buildings.
* Respond to customer feedback regarding work requests; customers have not needed to escalated any issues.
* Maintain pumps, cylinders, and control gear throughout all buildings.
* Maintain hot and cold‑water systems throughout all buildings.
* Complete statutory PPMs and follow the PPM planner.
* Install new pipework, services and fittings as required.
* Repair leaks as required.
* Repairs to guttering replacement.
* Work with other members of the maintenance team when required.
* Assist contractors as and when required.
* Keep up to date with new materials and methods of application.
* Update records in the sites CAFM system.
* Carry out other duties as may be required by the Head of M&E or Head of Fabric.
* Work in a safe and tidy manner and comply with current health and safety legislation and the College Health and Safety Policy.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience, Personal Qualities Required
* Self‑motivated with a flexible approach and the ability to use initiative to complete works safely.
* Plumbing qualification – City & Guilds Plumbing qualification (preferred) with ideally a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
* Valid UK driving licence (required).
* CSCS card (preferred).
* Sufficient level of literacy and IT knowledge to complete basic records and receive jobs through the CAFM system.
* Broad and extensive knowledge of plumbing and heating systems.
* Experience in fault‑finding and repair methods.
* Knowledge of above‑ground and below‑ground foul and rainwater drainage systems.
* Experience in a variety of pipework, iron, copper, lead, plastic and associated fittings.
* Knowledge of safe working practices and the ability to apply these in practice.
* Awareness of COSHH and health and safety regulations as they relate to building and maintenance.
* Good awareness of asbestos.
Terms and Conditions
* Working hours Monday‑Friday, 39 hours per week – some out of hours work will be required, including possible emergency attendance.
* Salary £32,000 – £34,000 depending on experience.
