NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

The shift pattern for this post is 7 sessions post now increased to 10 sessions (Hospice funded)

The Consultant in Palliative Medicine provides senior medical leadership and specialist clinical care for patients with complex palliative and end-of-life needs across St Vincent's Hospice and the communities it serves in Renfrewshire and North Ayrshire. As the senior medical clinician within the hospice and a core member of the multidisciplinary palliative care team, the postholder holds medical responsibility for hospice in-patients, ensuring continuity of care across settings.

The role includes delivering specialist medical care within the hospice inpatient unit and providing ongoing medical support to patients living within a defined geographical area, working closely with community teams, primary care, and acute services. The Consultant offers expert advice and professional leadership across organisational and professional boundaries to support coordinated, high-quality palliative care.

The postholder plays a lead role in maintaining and developing clinical standards, quality, and safety in Palliative Medicine, contributing to clinical governance, service development, education, and continuous improvement, aligned with the hospice's values and strategic objectives.
