About the Role
Addressing climate change, meeting targets such as net zero, and creating a sustainable future are among society's biggest challenges. Scientific measurement plays a key role in understanding the Earth system, identifying innovation potential, and ensuring innovations deliver as intended. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL), as the UK’s National Metrology Institute, sets standards for measurement and works with government, industry, and stakeholders to ensure reliability and accuracy.
The Environment team develops strategies to engage stakeholders, identify new science opportunities, and support impactful science delivery.
Purpose of the Role
* Conduct strategic analytical research to support the development of NPL's Environment strategy and programmes, focusing on specific sectors or industries to identify measurement needs.
* Engage early with stakeholders to develop NPL's viewpoints and positions through literature searches and external interactions.
We now operate in a hybrid working environment, offering flexibility between remote and office work to promote work-life balance, depending on the role and business needs.
About You
Seeking candidates passionate about addressing climate change and sustainability. The role involves strategic research, stakeholder engagement, and developing NPL's scientific and business capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead delivery of strategic research projects, including scoping, stakeholder engagement, and reporting.
* Perform policy, market, and technical desk research to identify measurement challenges and insights.
* Enhance NPL's profile through content-driven engagement with external stakeholders and support marketing activities.
* Assist in business development and opportunity realization.
* Support strategy development and ensure health and safety compliance.
Key Skills and Knowledge
* Strong project management, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.
* Business acumen and leadership qualities.
* Excellent communication skills, with experience in report writing.
* A scientific degree is preferred; financial skills are a plus.
