We are looking for an Area Highways Technician to join our innovative Highways Network Management Team.
The purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure that that the km of Council managed roads and footways are kept safe for all highway users, and to support the Highway Network Management team leaders to identify and commission works to keep the highway in good condition.
To be the primary contact with citizens when dealing with enquiries and complaints face to face, ensuring that those contacts are dealt with effectively so that a good perception of the department is maintained. Training will be provided.

What I might be doing?
1. You will perform regular walked and driven inspections on the roads and footways across the district of Wakefield, looking for defects and identifying remedial measures and timescales for repair.
2. You will identify works to extend the life of the structure and surface of the highway by specifying suitable and cost-effective materials and installation processes.
3. You will identify and report hazards, and organise replacement signage, road markings and street furniture
4. You will work closely with colleagues and the customer contact centre to ensure that good quality and timely communications are provided in all forms (telephone, email, and face to face)
5. You will respond to emergency incidents when requested to protect the public and to ensure the highway can be safely reopened to users safely and as quickly as possible.
6. You will represent Wakefield Council at meetings, some of which will be with the public, and when required attend court as a witness at hearings related to third party claims.
