We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Pain to join our team at Torbay Hospital.
Your time will be divided approximately equally between pain medicine and anaesthetics.
You will contribute to delivering a quality Consultant-led service in pain medicine and general anaesthesia. Your general anaesthesia duties will include elective and on-call services.
Our unit is innovative, and we seek someone to help advance our pain service.
The Chronic Pain Team comprises 4 consultants and a GP WSI, functioning within the Anaesthetic Department. Pain consultants collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide outpatient chronic pain clinics, interventional pain procedures, and inpatient pain support.
Inpatient pain services are mainly delivered by consultants and nurses, with 3 inpatient pain nurses providing weekday services and a weekly inpatient consultant session. There is close liaison between inpatient and outpatient teams, with weekend support from the general anaesthetic emergency team.
Pain clinics operate from Torbay and surrounding hospitals, working closely with the Royal Devon University Hospital.
The role involves providing high-quality, consultant-led patient care, including clinical leadership and supervision of junior staff, ensuring high standards of care.
Weekly timetable/Job plan: The clinical duties are expected to be evenly split between chronic pain and general anaesthetics. The current anaesthetic on-call rota is 1:20, with additional PAs available for extended working days and weekends.
Why work with us?
Based in South Devon, with excellent links across Devon and beyond, Torbay offers a great work-life balance, close to coastlines and moorlands, with large cities less than 40 minutes away.
